Trail Information
The John Bull trail (aka 3N10) is one of the most popular trails in the San Bernardino National Forest. Located in the Big Bear mountains, this challenging, boulder-filled drive is not one to attempt with a stock vehicle or lack of experience off-road. Some say this trail is the most difficult in the area, while others promote Holcomb Creek as being slightly tougher. At any rate, John Bull is going to keep you busy both as a driver and spotter as your group progresses through the obstacles.
Similar to Holcomb Creek, the recommended must-have equipment for running John Bull includes very high clearance, a minimum of 33” tires, skid plates, proper recovery gear, experience, and a capable group. This is not a trail to take on solo.
John Bull can be run in both directions. Most drivers prefer running the trail from east to west, however, some consider it to be a bit less difficult running from west to east. Just do your research and use your judgment on what strategy will be best for you and your group.
To get an idea of what's in store on this trail and what you need to be prepared for, take a look at this video from TrailMilitia as they attempt it during the 2022 Bronco Bash.
