Trail Information
The Georgia Traverse is a unique overland route that covers a distance of 390 miles across North Georgia, USA. This route comprises a mix of county, state, and Forest Service roads, with mostly off-pavement sections. The journey begins at Burrells Ford Road along the Georgia/South Carolina border and ends at the Georgia/Alabama border, passing through North Carolina and Tennessee.
The route covers 226 miles of unpaved surfaces that consist of dirt, gravel, or both. There are also 164 miles of paved roads, with the majority of them located in the western part of the Cohutta and Big Frog Wilderness Loop. The Georgia Traverse provides opportunities for off-pavement connectivity, enabling travelers to experience a border-to-border adventure across Georgia.
On trail, you'll be offered a range of unique experiences, including campsites, hiking opportunities, water crossings, and more. There are over 500 waypoints along the route, offering details on what to expect and where to go. The waypoints provide a wealth of information, from road names to possible campsites, and are a valuable resource when planning to undertake the journey.
The Georgia Traverse is an excellent opportunity for you to explore the beautiful state of Georgia at your own pace, choosing portions to visit leisurely over many weekends or a single, long journey if that's more your vibe.
