Park Information
Kobuk Valley National Park is a protected wilderness area located in the northwest region of the state of Alaska, United States. It covers an area of approximately 1.8 million acres and is known for its stunning sand dunes, rugged mountains, and abundant wildlife.
Kobuk Valley is home to the Kobuk River. The Kobuk River is made popular by being the home to a biannual caribou migration, located in the Onion Portage region of the river.
Kobuk Valley is known for its vast backcountry space. In the summer months, you are able to access the park by plane, boat, or by foot. During the winter months, you will need a plane, snowmachine or dogs to access the park. Although the park is beautiful, extreme caution and expertise need to be taken when planning this trip. Park services are not available within the park.

Weather in this region can be very unpredictable. It is best to be prepared for any time of weather at any time. It is suggested to always travel with good quality rain gear and warm layers. Staying dry in this environment is very important for your safety, as hypothermia can set in quickly.
