Spainhour Falls

Spainhour Falls is a scenic waterfall located in the Ozark National Forest in Arkansas. It's a lesser-known gem within the forest, offering a tranquil and picturesque setting for nature lovers and hikers.

The Ozark National Forest itself is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, characterized by its rugged terrain, dense woodlands, and numerous streams and rivers. Within this expanse, Spainhour Falls stands out as a particularly beautiful spot.

The waterfall is accessible via a 4x4 trail which is considered moderately challenging due to the terrain and the descent towards the falls. The trail leads through lush forest areas, offering glimpses of the local flora and fauna, before arriving at the falls.

Spainhour Falls is particularly impressive after a period of rain, when the water flow is at its peak. The waterfall cascades over a rocky ledge into a serene pool below, creating a peaceful and picturesque environment. It's a popular spot for photography, picnicking, and simply enjoying the serenity of the natural surroundings.   There are a few campsites available near the falls on a first-come-first-served basis.

Apart from its natural beauty, the area around Spainhour Falls is also a habitat for various wildlife species, making it a great spot for bird watching and wildlife observation.

It's important for visitors to the falls to respect the natural environment, adhere to trail guidelines, and practice Leave No Trace principles to preserve the beauty and ecological balance of the area.  This trails was closed in the recent past and has been re-opened as of 2023. Proper usage and care will provide the best chance of keeping it open long-term, so please do your part!
