Trail Information
The Rimrocker trail is a scenic off-road trail that spans from Montrose, Colorado to Moab, Utah. It's a rugged and challenging route that's popular among overlanders, offering a unique way to experience the stunning terrain of the American Southwest. The trail is not a continuous paved road but rather a network of dirt roads and trails that winds its way through the landscape.
The length of Rimrocker can vary in range from approximately 160 to 200 miles, depending on the specific route taken and any detours chosen. It winds through diverse terrain, including deserts, canyons, plateaus, and mountain passes. It crosses through parts of the Uncompahgre Plateau, the San Miguel River Canyon, the Dolores River Canyon, and the Colorado-Utah border region.
Difficulty
Rimrocker is considered a moderate route that requires a high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicle. Some portions of the trail are steep, rocky, and require careful navigation. Due to its length, this trail takes a minimum of two to three days for most groups to complete.
Given the remote and rugged nature of the trail, it's important to plan your trip thoroughly. Make sure to bring enough water, food, fuel, and any necessary supplies. Check road conditions, weather forecasts, and trail guides before setting out. Some portions of the trail may be impassable during certain times of the year, especially during winter.
