Trail Information
Poughkeepsie Gulch is generally considered to be the most difficult trail in the San Juan area. It runs between Lake Como at the base of Hurricane Pass and Mineral Creek. The vast majority of the trail is mild to moderate, however, the main obstacle - called "The Wall" - quickly makes up for it.
The Wall is a steep, challenging obstacle that will always look less diffcult in photo and videos than it turns out to be in person. I can say that from personal experience. That said, it's more that doable with the right equiptment and a good spotter.
Unlike most of the other trails in the area, Poughkeepsiee Gulch should not be attempted with stock, high-clearance vehicle. A small lift, 33+ inch tires, and lockers would be ideal - along with a solid winch.
