Trail Information
Drummond Island, located in the eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan, is a well-known destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The island offers a wide range of activities, including hiking, fishing, boating, and off-road vehicle (ORV) riding. One of the most popular ORV trails on the island is the Marble Head Loop trail.
The Marble Head Loop is a 10-mile loop that winds through the island's interior. The trail offers riders a mix of terrain, including rocky outcroppings, mud pits, and wooded sections. The trail is rated as moderate in difficulty, with several steep climbs and descents.
The trailhead is located at the Marble Head Trailhead, which has parking and restroom facilities available. Riders must purchase a permit and adhere to the island's strict rules and regulations, which are in place to protect the island's natural resources and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all users.
One of the highlights of the Marble Head Loop is the chance to explore the island's unique geology. The trail passes through several limestone formations, providing a thrilling ride for riders. Additionally, the trail passes through wooded sections, offering riders the chance to see wildlife, such as deer and bald eagles.
Another unique aspect of the trail is the chance to see remnants of the island's history. The trail passes through several former homesteads and logging camps, providing a glimpse into the island's past.
The Marble Head Loop also offers several opportunities for riders to stop and take in the island's beauty. The trail passes by several scenic overlooks, providing riders with breathtaking views of Lake Huron and the island's rugged terrain.
While the trail can be completed in a few hours, many riders choose to camp at one of the island's campsites and take their time exploring the trail. The island offers several campsites, both primitive and modern, as well as several lodging options.
