Trail Information
Lead King Basin is a challenging and scenic off-road route located in the Elk Mountains of Colorado, near the town of Marble. This trail is a popular destination for off-road enthusiasts, providing them with an opportunity to explore the rugged beauty of the Colorado backcountry.
Features
The trail is an approximately 9-mile off-road trail that winds through steep and narrow terrain, offering drivers incredible views of the surrounding mountains, forests, meadows, and alpine lakes. The trail takes you to the historic Crystal Mill, a well-known and often photographed landmark, and serves an an entry for Schofield Pass from the west.
During the summer, photographers on the trail will be delighted to see beautiful wildflowers scattered all across the basin. Those, in combination with the Crystal Mill, make a for great day behind a camera.
Difficulty
Lead King Basin is considered to be a moderately challenging off-road trail. The trail is narrow and steep, with tight switchbacks, rocky sections, and potentially challenging obstacles. It's recommended for experienced off-road drivers with suitable vehicles equipped for rough terrain.
