Trail Information
Fins & Things is an incredible slickrock off-road trail located just outside of Moab, Utah. This popular trail is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the area, and sits at number one as our family's favorite desert trail.
The trail is approximately nine miles long and takes roughly three hours to complete. It is rated as a moderate-level off-road trail, which means that it is suitable for experienced off-roaders and those who have some off-road driving experience. Fins & Things consists of a series of slickrock fins, which are narrow, rocky ridges that have been shaped by the elements over time. These fins provide a challenging terrain for drivers to navigate, offering a steep climbs and descents paired with the incredible traction of the sandstone surface.
Fins & Things is a popular trail among off-road enthusiasts, and it is not uncommon to see a variety of off-road vehicles on the trail. Jeep Wranglers, ATVs, and UTVs are all commonly used on this trail, and there are even guided tours available for those who want to experience the trail with an experienced guide. In terms of vehicle capability, you're going to want something with high clearance and a short wheelbase. It's doable in a stock Jeep Wrangler or Ford Bronco as a point of reference, but you make scrape bumpers a bit. If you're nervous at all about it, we recommend renting a UTV from one of the many providers in town. It's easy and bombproof, and guaranteed to be a good time.
One of the reasons that Fins & Things is such a popular trail is its accessibility. The trailhead is located just a few miles outside of Moab, and it is easily accessible from Highway 191. Additionally, the trail is open year-round, making it a great option for those who want to explore the area during any season.
