If you're an off-road enthusiast looking for a thrilling adventure in the Pacific Northwest, the Blacktail Wild Bill ORV trail system should definitely be on your bucket list. This trail is located in the beautiful Blacktail Mountains near Lakeside, Montana, and offers riders a challenging and scenic ride through the forested wilderness.
The Blacktail Wild Bill ORV system has three major legs with multiple access points and features a unique mix of natural and man-made obstacles throughout. The difficulty you'll encounter while on the trail will primarily be of your own choosing and will range from moderate to extreme as all the major obstacles provide a viable bypass.
Outside of its obstacles, Blacktail Wild Bill trail system offers some spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. As you ride along the trail, you'll be treated to stunning vistas of Flathead Lake, the Mission Mountains, and the Swan Range.
One of the highlights of the trail is the Blacktail Mountain Lookout, which offers panoramic views of the area from an elevation of 6,764 feet. This lookout was originally used as a fire lookout tower, but has since been decommissioned and is now open to the public. It's definitely worth taking a break from riding to climb to the top of the tower and take in the breathtaking views.
Another feature of the Blacktail Wild Bill ORV trail system is the opportunity to see wildlife in its natural habitat. The forested areas around the trail are home to a variety of wildlife, including black bears, elk, moose, and mountain lions. As you ride along the trail, keep your eyes peeled for signs of these majestic creatures.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable ride on the Blacktail Wild Bill ORV trail, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, ensure you have the proper equipment and gear, including a helmet, gloves, and sturdy riding boots. You should also carry a first aid kit, plenty of water and snacks, and a map or GPS device.
