Park Information
Great Sand Dunes National Park is a United States National Park located in southern Colorado. It is home to the tallest sand dunes in North America, which rise up to 750 feet above the surrounding landscape. The dunes were formed over millions of years by wind and water erosion, and are composed of sand and silt particles that were carried by ancient rivers and deposited in the San Luis Valley. The park is home to a variety of plant and animal life, including mule deer, pronghorns, and an array of bird species. It is a popular destination for sandboarding, hiking, and sightseeing. Great Sand Dunes National Park is located about 200 miles south of Denver.

Weather & Clothing
Weather in this area is pretty cool all year. However, due to the high altitude the sunlight can be very intense. It is suggested to visit the park in the morning or in the evening, to avoid the intense sun and heat on the sand. It is recommended to have gear for extreme weather to protect from sunlight or for warmth when the sun goes down.
