Dry Tortugas
National Park
Florida
Park Information
Dry Tortugas National Park is a U.S. national park located in the Gulf of Mexico, about 70 miles west of Key West, Florida. The park is made up of seven small islands, including Garden Key, where the park's main attraction, Fort Jefferson, is located. Fort Jefferson is a 19th-century military fortress that was used as a prison during the Civil War. The park is known for its clear turquoise waters, coral reefs, and abundant marine life, including a variety of fish, sea turtles, and seabirds. It is a popular destination for snorkeling, scuba diving, and fishing. The park is also home to several threatened and endangered species, including the Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle and the Piping Plover. Dry Tortugas National Park is accessible only by boat or seaplane, making it a remote and secluded destination for those looking to escape the crowds and experience the natural beauty of the Florida Keys.
